The nice thing about the summer is there are so many fun and free outdoor activities for children to participate in. As nature lovers here at Pinecone Pediatrics, we love hitting the trails all over the Reno/Sparks area. There are trails of all shapes and sizes. Ever try geocaching? Geocaching is a fabulous way to spend a Saturday or Sunday searching the local trails for hidden treasures. Just remember to bring a small treasure of your own to exchange. There are even free apps for your phone to help you find these hidden treasures.
When hiking with your family, we recommend going early in the morning or in the evening to beat the heat. Don’t forget your sunscreen and bug spray. Take breaks and enjoy the scenery. Bring plenty of water and high protein snacks…nothing is worse than a cranky, hungry and tired child coming back on the last mile!

Want to cool off? Of course there is the fun of Wild Island Adventure Park, but don’t forget about the local pools available to you. The Sparks Marina is also open for swimming during the summer. Please be safe, wear sunscreen, and have fun!
